HOW TO PLAY?

EXPLANATION

Kubb or as it is commonly known, Viking Chess is an outdoor game of Swedish origin. Kubb, which is a fun sports activity that can be played individually or in teams on grass, snow, concrete, sand and gravel, is played with a game set consisting of a total of 21 pieces. Preparation; The Kubb playground for adults is 8x5m from edge to edge and consists of two halves. For children, these measures can be calculated as steps. The boundaries of the playing field are determined with 6 pointy sticks. The king is placed in the middle of the two halves. Two of each of the 5 cubic pawns of each team are placed at the corners of the 5m long baselines, one in the middle of each, and the other two pawns in the middle of the center and corner pawns. Each team has 6 throwing sticks. Although there is no standard for the number of players of each team, this can be decided mutually. Also, the number of players can be determined by a referee. The teams may not even have to have an equal number of players. However, the practice is that there should be at least 1 and at most 6 players in each team and shots should be made with different players. The King's shot will determine who starts the game. One player from each team throws a throwing stick at the King. The team of the player whose stick is closer to the King gets the right to start the game. If the King is overthrown during the throw, the team that overthrew the King loses the right to start the game first. Throwing sticks can only be thrown by making vertical turns from bottom to top. Side throws or non-return throws are void and the right to shoot passes to the other team. Each game is played in 4 sets. However, the teams can determine the number of sets among themselves. 6 throwing sticks are thrown according to the order 2-4 / 4-2 / 6-6 ... The team that gains the right to start the game throws 2 sticks and the turn for throwing passes to the other team. The other team has the right to throw 4 sticks. In the first two shots, the right to throw 6 sticks is completed and regular 6 shots are started. Game; The player of the team that has the right for the first shot tries to knock down the target pawn on the opponent's baseline by holding the first stick at the tip and rotating it vertically behind their own baseline. If no pawn is knocked down after two throws, the turn for shooting passes to the opponent team. If the opposing team has knocked down pawns, these pawns are thrown by their owners into the opponent playing area and into the area closest to them. Thrown pawns are erected in the other area. If there is a pawn falling outside the playing area, the team that owns the pawn is given another chance for that pawn. If the pawn falls out of the playing area on the second throw, the team that knocked the pawn can place that pawn anywhere in its own half of the field, provided that it is no closer than the stick distance to the King. And the right to shoot passes to the other team. If the team that has the right to shoot does not have a standing pawn in the opponent area, it targets directly the pawns of the opponent in the baseline. If the opponent has standing pawns on the field, they must first turn over those pawns. Otherwise, they cannot aim for their opponent's pawns. While using their 4 shots right, the opponent kills their pawns in the area and tries to destroy their opponent's pawns if they have the right to shoot. If the opponent has their own pawns destroyed on the field when the right to shoot ends, they will place them back on their baseline. They give the opponent's destroyed pawns to their opponent to throw them into their own area. Another situation is that while using the right to shoot, the pawns standing in the opponent's area cannot be knocked down. In such a situation, when the right to shoot changes hands, the baseline of the team that will shoot will be the line on which the pawns cannot be turned over, and this will provide a serious advantage to the team using the right to shoot. The King cannot be aimed until all base pawns of any team are knocked down. The shot towards the king is strictly taken from the actual baseline. If the King is knocked down while both teams have pawns in the baseline, the team that overthrew the King will lose the game. To win, you must first knock down all of your opponent's base pawns and then knock down the King. Kubb & Viking Chess is a good strategy and tactical game that has improving effects on counting, analytical thinking and fair-play, as well as an educational material where luck is also a factor.
